More Comfortable Patients & A More Profitable Practice

Today we’re talking with Juan P. Acosta, CHP for a brief introductory Q & A about his new book, Hypnondontics. Juan is busy in Las Vegas giving a few talks and doing some press promoting his new book, but he has graciously agreed to talk with us.
The following is an excerpt from our phone conversation earlier today.
Juan thank you for taking the time to chat with us today, can you tell our audience of dentists & dental practice marketers what your new book, Hypnodontics, is all about?
Absolutely Chris, Hypnodontics is a practical textbook for dentists and their teams to learn the techniques we use in the hypnotherapy office, without having to become hypnotherapists.
It’s direct to the point and effective.
It teaches you how to become more influential with easy to learn skills, but without going into therapy.
How do you envision dentists benefiting from reading Hypnodontics?
Reading the book is only the beginning!
But when they practice and apply what they learned from the book they will see great results. The practices we’ve worked with have experienced increased revenue, mostly because of increased patient satisfaction.
When patients are happy and pleasantly surprised about their dental visit, they tell people! – And nowadays having good online reviews is a must for dental practices.
You know I love and agree wholeheartedly about that part Juan – the online reviews.
What are some of the major problems your book Hypnodontics can help dentists solve?
The book is a great tool for those times when the doctor or hygienist needs to be most influential to take the best care of their patients.
For example when a patient needs to understand why they want to see him every four months, or when the office manager calls to confirm an appointment and the patient doesn’t show up.
Hypnodontics teaches how to apply ethical influence.
You know your patient needs to see you, yet you can’t force him to come… but what you can do is learn how to properly motivate and influence him.
And it’s all just language! It’s a beautiful thing.
On one side, you team with dental practices to work with anxious or fearful dental patients, but tell us a little about the business side of Hypnodontics…
How would your book help dentists improve their patient communications, or case presentation & acceptance?
Oh yes!
Actually Hypnodontist was born out of my work at a dental clinic where my job was to “sell” patients on coming in for appointments and make sure they would show up.
So a portion of the book is geared towards reducing no-shows and getting patients to get the treatment they need.
So we teach the team soft selling with some elegance in their language. Nobody wants to be a pushy sales person… not in the dental office.
So true!
