How the New Google My Business App Benefits Dentists

Google My Business Updates Their App

Yesterday Google announced their newly updated Google My Business App. According to their blog post…

In true competitive fashion the app is currently only available on Android phones but according to Google, an iOS version will be out soon enough.

Running a successful small business is about finding and connecting with the right customers. Business owners are increasingly using their smartphones, and so today we are making enhancements to both the Google My Business and the AdWords Express apps. We hope this makes it easier to find the right customers, whether they are looking for you at their desktop computer or on their phone on the go.

How Can Dentists Benefit from the Google My Business App?

Two ways: responding to reviews & seeing listing insights about calls to your practice and clicks to get directions.

1. Respond to Reviews in the Google My Business App – probably the biggest deal to dentists with this update is that now business owners can respond to Google reviews via the Google My Business mobile app.

The newly updated MyBusiness app makes it possible for you to respond to Google reviews in the app, along with real-time alerts if you’re the type of dentist that wants to keep a pulse on your online reputation.

2. Call Analytics from within the Google My Business app – this was a feature that was widely reported here as a temporary rollout last month, but is now available in mobile and desktop analytics.

Wondering how patients & prospective patients are using their smartphones to get in touch with your dental practice?

When people find you on Google, you can see when they call or from where they get driving directions, so you can be prepared for that next emergency or start identifying trends in new patient call flow.

How to Enable or Disable Google Review Notifications

Listed below is the process to set up notifications courtesy of the Google help files. This will enable you to see how to activate review notifications to be alerted each time your dental practice – or your personal practitioner page for all you associate docs in group practices – gets a new Google review.

Every time you get a new review on Google, you’ll get a notification in the top right corner of Google My Business. You’ll also get notifications on your phone if you’ve installed the Google My Business app.

Selecting the notification will take you to the Reviews section of Google My Business.

To enable or disable review notifications:

Mobile:

  1. Open the Google My Business app.
  2. Click on the upper right hand menu > Settings > Name_of_your_business
  3. Touch Notifications > Reviews
  4. Check or uncheck the box to turn review notifications on or off.

Computer:

  2. Choose My Business > Settings from the left-hand navigation ribbon.
  3. Scroll to “Receive notifications” and check or uncheck the box next “Reviews” to turn review notifications on or off.

Any Other Features for Dentists Using the Google My Business App?

When you advertise your dental practice through AdWords Express – not the full features Adwords which you’re better off using in my opinion – you can reach potential new patients right when they’re searching for the type of exemplary dental service that you so expertly provide to the local community.

With Adwords Express dentists can set up & manage their DIY advertising campaigns…and with a pair of dirty pliers I can extract my own tooth. To read more about how we consistently deliver new patient acquisition ROI for our member dentists with the full featured Google Adwords, check out this post.

Your top stats for the month are displayed in the Google My Business app, and you can switch over to AdWords Express to see more detail or edit the ad to promote your next big event, offer, or promotion.

According to Google,  all of these changes will be rolling out over the next few days, so check back soon if you don’t yet see the updates in your Google My Business app. For more information about the mobile apps, visit the Google My Business and AdWords Express help centers.
